People often ask me what we have done at Web Xtreme that allowed us to grow so rapidly and profitably with no investment capital. Normally, companies that grow quickly do so because they are provided with a lot of seed money in the beginning. This money is then focused on employment, marketing, technology and other things that allow a company to grow effectively. So, when I think about the answer to that question, the main thing that comes to mind is people. Things like drive, dedication, desire and a positive attitude are (of course) all important as well. However, you can have all the drive in the world, but unless you are willing to open your mind to the opinions of others, you will likely fail.
You can be so driven that you work the late nights and arrive to work at five in the morning, but you're still only one person and will likely burn out without the help of other people. Too many business owners and managers live by the old adage, "If you want it done right - you have to do it yourself". My reply to that is, "If you don't lead your people right - you'll have to do it yourself"
Three years ago, when Web Xtreme was founded, there were many people who were instrumental in taking the company from a start up to where we are today. Without people like Brian Shoff and Jim DiStefano we never would have been able to take our initial website and make it something "real". Without Stephanie Church and Delissa Smith our early sales would have been minimal and we would have had no funds to grow on. All of these people are still with us today because they're appreciated and are provided with a great place to work. You've got to hire the right people - train them well - and let them fly on their own. Most importantly, make sure they know that they're appreciated for all that they do for you.
